But when you see what Unions have done to America…it’s hard to feel for the folks in Wisconsin. Have you been to Detroit? Have you really dug into the US Public School system? Utter disasters.

Detroit will come back. The school will be…

Why do people write like this! If you hate unions you are just not “as liberal as they come,” at all! Ill-informed opinions about current-events aside, LEARN WHAT THE WORDS THAT YOU USE MEAN.

I think many people do not equate liberal with pro-labor movements these days. It’s not an unreasonable supposition, really. Social Liberalism, progressivism, social benefits, mixed economy, civil rights… those are what I think of as liberalism in the US. Support for organized labor doesn’t fall into the automatically liberal camp. It’s only peripherally mentioned in the wikipedia article, for example (lousy proxy, but still..) It’s also worth saying it could include labor rights, but not necessarily assumed it HAS to be through labor unions

A-fucking-men. I spend a lot of time deconstructing the Conservative movement, wondering about its future as Reagan’s “three-legged stool” loses a leg (up until today’s Planned Parenthood vote, did anyone think the social cons still had a prayer of getting anything accomplished in Congress?). It’s fascinating to me, however, that Liberal ideology doesn’t recognize its own coalition splitting: Big Labor is the new pariah, right or wrong. And in an age of concern about deficits, debt, and growing government, the public employees unions are in the cross hairs.

Wisconsin will be a watershed moment, one way or the other. That’s why the Administration is mobilizing its resources and working actively to prevent the Governor’s plan. If union-busting works in WI, you’ll see it happen in six states this spring; it’ll be happening in twenty by the end of the year. If you’re generally a supporter of labor unions, this is either your Alamo or Trafalgar.

If you really think unions are evil, work to eliminate them by making businesses treat their workers like human beings.
